Kenneth Virnig - Ken has over 25 years of search experience in high technology. He specializes in the placement of both CEOs and Vice Presidents for pre-public Enterprise Software, Internet Infrastructure, and Networking/Communications companies. Ken earned an MBA in Marketing from Northwestern University and a BSc from Santa Clara University. After receiving his MBA, Ken joined the IBM Corporation, where he spent 11 years in a variety of senior sales and marketing positions. During his last three years with IBM, Ken was the Branch Sales Manager in Palo Alto, California where he was responsible for IBM's Data Processing Sales in the Greater Bay Area and Silicon Valley. Following IBM, Ken joined Itel Corporation as Vice President of Marketing for the Data Products Division. Ken's career in the executive search business began in 1981 with the Bridgegate Group in San Francisco, California. He served as President of Bridgegate for seven years prior to co-founding Devine and Virnig in 1989. Ken is a six-time honoree of the "Midas List," which is the annual Forbes Magazine ranking of the Top 100 individuals nationally, who have been most instrumental in building successful technology and life sciences companies. Each year, beginning in 2001, Forbes identifies individuals who have achieved the highest level of success in deploying capital to create wealth and build valuable, long lasting companies. During the first six years of the "Midas List," Ken was ranked 51, 38, 45, 81, 69, and 84, respectively. Beginning in 2007, Forbes changed their candidate selection criteria for the "Midas List" and opted to omit certain types of service providers from consideration, including executive search consultants. Although no longer eligible for inclusion on the "Midas List," Ken's tradition of investing in his pre-public clients and maintaining a high level of post-placement involvement has remained constant and continues today. In October '99, Ken was identified by the Red Herring as a "Member of High Tech's Inner Circle, One of Nine Individuals Who Can Help Make a Startup a Standout." In 1997, Ken was a recipient of the "Silicon Valley Service Provider of the Year Award" in the CEO Executive Search category. This program, which was co-sponsored by Coopers & Lybrand, Venture Law Group, and Silicon Valley Bank, sought to identify and recognize the individuals and firms who were providing outstanding service to high technology companies in Silicon Valley. The sponsors surveyed over 4,000 corporate executives and venture capitalists to identify which firms were viewed as the leaders in their respective service categories.
